The Goose Girl

Susan - 4 stars -"I really liked this fairytale retelling. We have a princess in dire need, we have a handsome prince, an evil lady-in-waiting who wants to be princess, and we have some magic.
This had such a magical feel to it, which is why I love fairytales. It was also pretty grueling at times (like in real fairytales, where I’m shocked when reading to my 4 year old that so many people are maimed, beaten, hanged, etc.). But despite all the awful things happening to Ani, she remained quite upbeat and was still willing to fight.
I also really loved the ending. It seems nothing can beat a true hard-won HEA fairytale style with a nice dramatic showdown."
Princess Academy

Tatiana - 4 stars - "Sometimes you just want to take a break from endless angst and sexual tension of currently popular both adult and YA books and read something light and inoffensive. "Princess Academy" is an excellent choice for this purpose. Although this is an obviously children's book, it is not silly or overly simplistic. The fairy tale is very imaginative and teaches many valuable lessons (importance of education is among many of them), but never in a preachy way.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found myself extending my walks and slowing my driving just to continue listening to this excellent full cast audio. My only complaint was that the main narrator read a little too slowly, I really wanted her to speed it up a bit.
Overall, a great experience. I will definitely read more of Shannon Hale's books when I am in a mood for a nice fairy tale."
Squirrel Girl

Jana - 4 stars - "This was a whole lot of fun. It doesn't go super deep, but it is a very entertaining book. I love Squirrel Girl as a character and I also love how we got to see a bunch of Avengers as well as other Marvel characters - so not only do we hear from a bunch of well-known characters like Black Widow, Iron Man etc., but we also see She-Hulk, for example. If you're looking for some lighthearted superhero fun, I'd definitely recommend this book."
Book of a Thousand Days

Hailey(Hailey in Bookland) - 5 stars - "This was so heartwarming and delightful and powerful and just wow. I loved it so much! I can't wait to read more of Shannon Hale's stuff now, knowing how her writing style is. More thoughts to come in a video review (I've decided that as of next month, rather than filming a monthly wrap up at the end, I will do mini batch reviews instead, that way I can go more into depth!)"
Austenland

Zoe - 3 stars - "The movie is one of my favorites, so I was so excited to learn that it was based on a book! Unfortunately, this is one of the rare cases where I enjoy the movie more than the book. Movie Jane was a raging Austen fangirl and just a tad pitiful, which was totally relatable and made me root for her. Book Jane seemed to have her life more or less together, so it wasn't as satisfying an experience. Still a pleasant read and I totally want to visit Austenland, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read this before watching the movie."
